Iemanjá

Posted on June 17, 2020October 17, 2021 by pgodesa

The beginning of February in Bahia marks the festival of Iemanjá, the Yoruban goddess of the sea, mother of fish, a deity of fertility, motherhood and water, the great patron saint of fishermen. In the Yoruba mortuary ideology, dying in the waters means returning to the origin, comfort and shelter of the Mother’s sacred body….

The Odyssey of a Lonely Woman 100 Years Later, Part 2

The death of the Caribbean // Leaving Guatemala, I take one last look at the enormous ceiba trees, majestic symbols of the country. A strange sadness accompanies this farewell, while I am excited to change the country after three months, I don’t want to leave the trees. They seem so solid, standing against the face…

The world is full of stories.

As a journalist, I have the privilege to uncover different complexities of daily life. Narratives which shape the society, circumstances that become events, human tales of courage, pain, and hope.

Sometimes I get an opportunity to look into the greatest minds, even more often a chance to feel with the boldest of hearts. Complex nature of our world provides me with an endless stream of inspiration and desire to catch a glimpse of many realities living on the same planet.

Stories are the anchor that gets me through a confusion of many opposing perspectives, forces and intentions. By sharing them with you, dear reader, I hope we manage to collectively shed some light on the darkest spots of ignorance and indifference.

I hope you enjoy reading as much as I did writing!
